High quality audience tapes captured in the near field, in a great sounding smaller venue is the simplest answer. Like some of very best auds from the Greek or the Frost in '82.

Or, a not too dry sbd, with a minimum of mike channels that captures the instruments and vocals well but also the acoustic character of the stage space.
Some of Owsleys are like that, a top example being 2/13/70.
